A temporal lift is a procedure performed on the temple area that lifts the outer parts of the eyebrows, giving the face a more youthful appearance. This surgical method is particularly preferred to correct drooping and sagging around the eyes.
Additionally, a temporal lift provides a more vibrant and rested facial appearance. It is typically performed using endoscopic techniques and leaves minimal scarring with small incisions. By lifting the outer part of the eyebrow, the eye area is made more open and aesthetically pleasing. It can be performed under local anesthesia, and the recovery process is quite rapid.
When we talk about a temporal lift, it may be understood as simply a brow lift; however, its scope is broader. The temple area, the outer edge of the brow, the outer part of the eye area, and even the line extending towards the cheekbone in some individuals determine the visual effect of this procedure. Even when the outer part of the brow is raised by a few millimeters, the outer corner of the eye appears more “open.” This makes a difference in many details, from the look of makeup to the expression in photographs.
Supporting the temple area also creates a “framing” effect on the upper part of the face. When the upper line of the face is lifted, the transition to the lower face area can be perceived as more balanced. For this reason, a temporal lift is sometimes considered on its own, and sometimes in combination with other facial rejuvenation procedures.
Suitable candidates for a temporal lift are generally individuals who experience drooping in the outer part of the eyebrow, a tired appearance around the eyes, and mild to moderate laxity in the temple area. The age range is broad; in some individuals, it may be preferred at an earlier age because the tail of the eyebrow is genetically low. In some individuals, laxity and the effects of gravity associated with age are the determining factors.
The important point here is to correctly identify the source of the problem. If the main issue is significant excess skin on the upper eyelid, a temporal lift alone may not be sufficient. Or, if the drooping affects the entire brow line, a more comprehensive brow lift approach may be necessary. Therefore, during the examination, the question of “how much should each area be lifted?” directly affects the naturalness of the result.
A temporal lift can be performed using different techniques, which can sometimes cause confusion about the concept. The general idea is to reposition the tissues upward through small incisions planned within the scalp in the temple area. This supports the outer part of the eyebrow and makes the temple line appear tighter. In some techniques, endoscopic imaging allows for more controlled work; in others, a more “localized” tightening is targeted in a more limited area.
The scope of the procedure varies depending on the individual’s skin quality, tissue laxity, brow shape, and the desired outcome. Therefore, a temporal lift is not a standard procedure performed the same way for everyone. While minimal lifting of the tail of the brow may be sufficient for one person, another may require stronger support of the temple tissue.
While traditional brow lift techniques can sometimes affect the entire brow, the temporal lift focuses more on the outer part of the brow. Therefore, the goal of “lifting the gaze” comes to the fore. If the inner part of the brow (the area close to the bridge of the nose) is noticeably low, a temporal lift alone may not achieve the desired effect. Conversely, if the inner eyebrow is normal but the outer eyebrow droop is pronounced, a temporal lift may be a very reasonable option.
Additionally, the temporal lift works in an advantageous area in terms of “lifting without changing facial expression” in some faces. This is because one of the things that most distorts human expression is lifting the entire eyebrow excessively. Proper planning specifically aims to minimize this risk.
In the first few days after a temporal lift, swelling, slight bruising, and a feeling of tightness in the temple area may occur. This is related to the tissues adapting to their new position and usually subsides over time in most people. Care of the incision areas on the scalp is performed according to the doctor’s recommendations. Keeping the head elevated, avoiding sudden bending or standing, and avoiding hot showers and strenuous exercise are generally recommended simple but effective steps.
The pace of recovery varies from person to person. While some people return to their social lives more comfortably within a few days, swelling may last longer in others. It may take weeks for the swelling to completely subside and the tissues to settle. At this point, rather than expecting to see immediate results, it is more comforting to know that the appearance will become more natural with each passing week.
Temporal lift prices today generally range from €1,500 to €3,000 (approximately 55,000–110,000 TL).
This price range varies depending on the scope of the procedure. A temporal lift lifts the temple and brow area to create a more youthful and refreshed facial appearance and is a common option in cosmetic surgery.
