Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery and plays an important role in boosting individuals’ self-confidence. However, there is a widespread belief that undergoing rhinoplasty increases social media addiction. We conducted a study to establish a scientific basis for this belief.

Social media addiction has become a global problem today. We conducted a study on 100 individuals who had undergone rhinoplasty and 102 individuals who were not considering undergoing rhinoplasty to assess whether individuals who undergo rhinoplasty are more prone to social media addiction. The study was conducted at an aesthetic surgery clinic and a university hospital.

Rhinoplasty and the Purpose of the Study

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the relationships between self-confidence, body image, and social media use among individuals who underwent rhinoplasty and those who did not. Data on age, gender, education level, and social media usage habits were collected from the participants.

Results and Findings

According to the results of the study, there was no significant difference in self-confidence and body image scores between individuals who underwent rhinoplasty and those who did not. Furthermore, no data was obtained to suggest that individuals who underwent rhinoplasty were more prone to social media addiction. The social media usage levels of both groups were found to be quite similar.

Scientific Publication and Evaluation

This research was published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic, one of the world’s most prestigious medical journals, with the title “Social Media Addiction Among Individuals Who Underwent Rhinoplasty: Myth or Reality?“. This scientific study examining the relationship between rhinoplasty and social media addiction is an important step towards correcting misconceptions in this field.

Rhinoplasty and Social Media Use

The belief that individuals who undergo rhinoplasty are more prone to social media addiction has not been supported by this study. The results of the study show that rhinoplasty has no significant effect on social media usage habits.

The Need for Further Research

Social media has become an indispensable part of modern life. More scientific research is needed to evaluate the contribution of surgical procedures such as rhinoplasty to individuals’ quality of life and to better understand the role of social media in these processes.

Approaches based on accurate information about rhinoplasty are of great importance in meeting individuals’ expectations regarding cosmetic surgery and eliminating social prejudices.
