Operation After Weight Loss

Overweight people often lose skin and tissue elasticity as a result of significant weight loss. This can result in -Sagging and loosening of the upper arm -Breasts flattened and nipples pointing downwards -Folding in the abdominal area and can extend to the lower back area -Sagging in the skin pockets of the buttocks, groin and thighs After significant weight loss, body contouring surgery supports the shape and tone of the underlying tissue and removes excess sagging fat and skin As a result, a more normal appearance with smooth contours is achieved.

Aesthetic Operations After Extreme Weight Loss

Before deciding to undergo body contouring after a major weight loss, the weight loss must be stabilized. -If you continue to lose weight, pockets of sagging skin will continue to form. -If there is a chance of rapid weight regain, the already weakened and thinned skin will be subjected to more stress, resulting in stretch marks and extensive scarring. Suitable candidates for body contouring are: – Adults of all ages with stabilized weight loss – No medical conditions that may impair recovery or increase surgical risk (Healthy individuals) – Individuals with positive and realistic goals for body contouring

Pre-Operation Interview

During the interview, your current complaints and your expectations after the operation are evaluated. Afterwards, your general health condition, the amount and distribution of fat in your body, sagging and excess skin and skin quality are evaluated. During this examination; accurate and detailed information is obtained about the diseases you have had, your current health problems (diabetes, etc.), your habits (smoking, drinking, etc.) and the medications you use (aspirin, tranquilizers, etc.). Your expectations and the results of your examination findings are evaluated. During this examination, the type of anesthesia, how many days you will stay in the hospital and after the operation are discussed. The body is examined in detail and measurements are taken. Photographs are taken for medical record. When you decide on the operation, my assistant plans the appropriate operation day for you.

Preparation for Operation Time

A cold or other infection may cause your operation to be postponed. You will need someone to help you on the day of the operation and for the next few days. Aspirin and derivative medications are stopped one week before the operation (do not stop your regular medication without consulting your doctor). It is recommended not to smoke for a period of time before and after the operation. On the day of the operation, do not apply make-up, do not use hair gel, wear comfortable clothes and leave your jewelry at home. Nothing should be eaten or drunk 6 hours before the operation. You should be at the hospital about one hour before the operation. When you arrive at your reserved room, you will be given an oral medicine if you wish, which will relax you.

Operation Technique

The following procedures are performed in aesthetic operation after weight loss: -Lower body lift: to correct abdominal, hip, groin and outer thigh sagging -Breast lift: to correct breast sagging, -Arm lift: to correct upper arm sagging -Thigh lift: to correct inner, outer and mid-thigh sagging In all body contouring operations, it is necessary to remove excess skin. In many cases, these incisions can be wide. The length and location of the incision depends on the amount of excess skin to be removed and its location. Incision scars are usually made in places that are not very visible and hidden. Lower Body Lift: A complete lower body lift is completed with a single operation or staged operations for sagging outer skin of the buttocks, abdomen, waist, and thighs. Incision patterns vary and a circumferential incision around the body may be required to remove excess skin and fat. Breast Lift: The incision pattern to lift sagging breasts is determined by the degree of sagging. Among these, around the nipple, lollipop candy-like and inverted ‘T’ shaped incisions can be made. In combination with a lifting operation in a sagging breast, silicone breast implants may be recommended to improve breast shape and size. Arm Lift: Sagging upper arms are treated with an incision in the armpit area that runs along the inside or back of the upper arm. These incision patterns vary according to the degree of sagging. Inner Thigh Lift: Thigh reshaping is corrected with incisions along the inner part of the thigh. The incision pattern varies depending on the degree of sagging. Outer Thigh Lift: An incision extending from the hip circumference to the groin area may be required to correct the outer contours of the thigh. This incision pattern varies depending on the degree of sagging.

Recovery Process

You will need to stay in hospital for a few days. It may take a few weeks before you feel like your old self. You can return to work after 2-4 weeks. Acceptable scars will be slightly visible but in general the good results are long lasting. After a post weight loss cosmetic surgery the results are immediately visible. The scarring may appear to get worse for the first 3-6 months but this is normal, it may take 9 months to 1 year for the scars to flatten and fade. Although they do not disappear completely, incision scars are left in the fold lines and can be hidden under the bikini line. It works well for patients with sagging thighs. In most patients, the good result can be maintained for years with regular exercise and diet. A special garment is worn for several weeks to dissolve edema, support the tissues and accelerate healing. The final results of body contouring operations are clearly visible after 1 year.
