Rhinoplasty is performed with two different methods, open and closed.
Open Rhinoplasty: In this technique, the skin of the nose is lifted through an incision made between the nostrils. Since the surgeon can see the nasal structure more easily, this method is especially advantageous during the training years of surgeons. After the training period, surgeons often prefer this technique because they are used to it. However, in open rhinoplasty, there is a risk of a scar on the tip of the nose that can be seen from the outside.
Closed Rhinoplasty: In this method, surgical incisions are made on the inside of the nostrils. With closed rhinoplasty, there is no external scar. However, this technique is more difficult to apply and the experience of the surgeon is of great importance.
Both techniques are widely used today. Which technique to choose is determined by the patient’s nasal structure. If there is no functional or dramatic problem, closed rhinoplasty is generally preferred. However, in cases requiring revision or correction, the open method may be preferred. The most appropriate method is determined by your surgeon during the examination.
