Breast Lift Aesthetics

For many women, sagging (ptotic) breasts are a major concern. Breasts can lose their aesthetic appearance, firmness and dynamic structure over time. Aging, gravity, weight loss, intensive diet programs, pregnancy and breastfeeding are among the main causes of sagging breasts.

For patients who are generally satisfied with their breast size but have sagging problems, breast lift operations that provide a more aesthetic, lifted and firm appearance may be preferred. Some patients experience a significant loss in breast volume over time and may be uncomfortable with this situation. In such cases, breast implants can be used to increase the size of the breasts and at the same time improve their shape and position.

Thanks to these interventions, the breasts have a more aesthetically pleasing appearance and the person feels happier and more confident.

Sagging breasts are usually a good candidate for breast lift surgery. Over time, the nipple may also enlarge; a more aesthetic and erect breast profile can be achieved by providing a proportional nipple appearance thanks to breast lift surgery.

You can use a simple “pencil test” to find out if you need a breast lift. To do this, place a pencil under the breast. If the pencil stays in place, this is an indication that you may benefit from a breast lift.

Classification of Breast Ptosis (Prolapse):

  • Stage I The nipple is at the level of the inframammary groove.
  • Stage II The nipple is located below the inframammary groove.
  • Stage III The nipple has descended to the lowest border of the breast tissue and is pointing downwards.

If you want your breasts to look fuller, you can consider combining a breast lift with breast augmentation. If you desire smaller breasts, you can achieve your ideal appearance by combining breast lift with breast reduction.

Pre-Operation Interview

Before the operation, your current complaints and your expectations after the operation are evaluated in detail. Factors such as the size and shape of your breasts, the condition of your skin, your age, whether you plan to have children in the future, and the new position of the nipple are discussed. In addition, comprehensive information about the details of the operation, possible postoperative scars, nipple sensitivity, breastfeeding status, type of anesthesia and the risks of the operation are given.

Once you have decided on the operation, my assistant will schedule your operation day by setting a suitable date for you.

When you decide on the operation, my assistant will plan the appropriate operation day for you.

Preparation for Operation Time

Before the operation, breast ultrasonography is requested for patients under 40 and mammography for patients over 40. On the day of the operation, you must be accompanied by a companion who will help you.

  • Aspirin and derivative drugs should not be used for one week before the operation. (Do not stop using your medications without consulting your doctor.)
  • Smoking should be limited for a period before and after the operation.
  • On the day of the operation, it is recommended that you come without makeup, hair gel, wear comfortable clothes and leave your jewelry at home.
  • Nothing should be eaten or drunk 6 hours before the operation.
  • On the day of the operation, you should arrive at the hospital about one hour before your booking time.

Once you have checked into the hospital and settled into your room, you will be given oral medication to relax you, if you wish.

Operation Technique

In breast lift surgery, the patient and surgeon together choose the technique (Superior, Superolateral or Inferior Pedicle) that aims to achieve the best result. In this process

  • The nipple and sagging breast tissue are reshaped.
  • The nipple is returned to its normal anatomical position.
  • Excess skin is removed, giving the breast a firmer and more aesthetic appearance.

After the operation, depending on the degree of sagging in the breast, vague scars may remain. These scars are usually in the form of a crescent moon around the nipple, circular or a 4-5 cm straight incision going down from the nipple. Although the scars are initially prominent, they fade and become less noticeable over time.

  • For fuller breasts, augmentation (silicone prosthesis) can be applied together with breast lift.
  • For smaller breasts, breast lift and reduction operations are combined to eliminate sagging.

Operative Evaluation According to the Degrees of Breast Ptosis (Prolapse):

  1. Phase I

    • Correction can be made with a breast implant or by removing the skin with an incision made only around the nipple. (Crescent-shaped scar remains.)
  2. Phase II

    • Correction is made with an incision made around the nipple or a 4-5 cm scar going down from the nipple. (Lollipop style operation.)
  3. Phase III

    • Correction is done with an inverted T-shaped scar or a lollipop-shaped operation. In this method, there is a 4-5 cm scar going down from the nipple.

The correct operation method and technique is determined according to the degree of sagging and the patient’s expectations.

Anesthesia Type

Breast lift operation is performed under general anesthesia. In this way, the patient is completely asleep during the operation and does not feel anything.

Operation Duration

On average, the operation takes about 3 hours. This time may vary depending on the technique chosen and the scope of the intervention.

Recovery Process

The postoperative period is usually comfortable. However, if a breast prosthesis was used during the operation, arm movements may be restricted for the first few days. The stages of the healing process can be summarized as follows:

  • Dressing: 2 days after the operation, the dressing is opened and the wound is checked.

  • Removal of dressings: After 7 days the dressings are removed.

  • Bra use: The patient should wear a sports bra for 6 weeks after the operation.

  • Swelling and tenderness: In the first period, mild swelling, numbness in the nipple and pink discoloration on the skin may be observed. These conditions usually resolve spontaneously in a short time.

  • Return to work: Depending on the healing process and the physical requirements of your job, you can usually return to work within 3-4 days.

  • Sports It is recommended to avoid heavy sports for the first 3 months after the operation.

Newly shaped breasts retain their durability for many years. Aesthetic breast lift surgery offers a permanent solution that generally improves the quality of life of patients and their partners, has positive effects on mental health and enables individuals to look at life more positively.
